Travel savings runway

See how many months your savings cover under two travel budgets.

—

How it works

Divide travel savings by each monthly budget. This uses flat spending and assumes zero investment returns and zero future income.

How long will your savings last while traveling?

Start with the savings you’ve set aside for travel. Keep emergency money and a return flight separate if you want those funds available at the end. Compare two monthly budgets to see how housing and moving more often affect your runway.

Putting the result to work

A $12,000 travel fund covers eight months at $1,500 per month or six months at $2,000. Those estimates assume flat spending and no new income.

How should I handle one-time costs?

Set aside known one-time costs such as the first flight before entering available savings, or spread them across the budget. Count them once.
